8 Mile

So I had a pretty busy week. Friday was brutal. I was running around trying to pick up donations for the garage sale. Packed the truck with my parents. Tried to set up fundraisers and finalize one that I am having on the 31st at Augie's Barbwire Smoke House with music by Watusi. Then Saturday was the garage sale, so this morning when the alarm went off at 4:30am, I did not want to get up. I thought for a moment that I would skip practice and walk later. However, I am glad I went. We were set to run/walk 8 miles with the option of 4 miles. When I got to the 2 mile water stop I wasn't sure if I was going to turn around. So I asked two other girls if they were walkin 8. They replied "Yes." I told them that I would stick with them and push throught the 8. Well some where around mile 3 they turned around. I was the last person to get to mile 4 water station. It was a little odd being by myself, but it allowed me to do intervals. That actually went well. Around mile 5 Coach Jennifer walked the remaining miles with me. It was nice to get to know her better and the coaches always walk with the last walker. Around mile 6 my hand were swollen. They felt so tight. Was not sure if it was not enough or too much salt the night before. They gave me a salt packet and the swelling went down by the time I got home. Bottom line I completed 8 miles today and I am very proud of myself. I still can't believe I did that walking and jogging and I wasn't hurting. God is good.

Garage Sale

Garage Sale is today. Truck is packed and I am ready to get started. I have never sold anything at a garage sale before, so I have no idea what to charge. Aim high and get a decent price? Checked my fundraising page at $1200. Only $3000 to go. Sigh

Garage sale went well. Thank God my mom was able to help me and my friend Kitty. I don't know what I would have done without them.

Today I just saw the goodness of people. I looked at the team and they had car load and truck loads and Uhaul 's filled with items to sell and it was HOT and they were just working and selling. I was just amazed at their generosity and commitment. Some of the team members do have a personal connection to the Society and others don't, yet they are out there raising money. I cannot even express how impressed I am with the team and I still can't believe that I am a part of this. It's pretty amazing.

San Antonio=HOT

Tuesday, July 14th - Went to the park and walked/ran 2 miles. I wanted to do more, but man it was HOT. I need to go out alot a little later. I'm thinking around 7:30.

Wednesday, July 15th - Missed my session with my personal trainer at 10am, totally forgot. However, I did make our weekly Wednesday practice. This week was at Incarnate Word University. We walked a shaded trail that was about 1.5 miles and that wasn't so bad. After that we walked around the track 4 times = 1 mile. I thought I was going to die. This heat is just unbearable. Felt like we were going straight into the sun. lol After we finished the track it was back to the trail to complete another 1.5. I was happy to see those trees.

Thursday, July 16th - Went to the gym and did the elliptical for 45 minutes and some weights. I even went to the big boy side of the gym. :0)

Tomorrow I need to get ready for the big garage sale on Saturday. I need to make some $$$$$$

Sigh

Went to the gym today. Did the elliptical for 35 minutes and weights for 35. The muscles on my right leg feel a little tight. Still icing it. Plan to walk tonight at the park. Will see if I can get through it without any pain. I hope so.

Part Time Job

Gosh, I can't believe it has been since the 17th since I have logged in, but I have been extremely busy. Team in Training is like a part time job. Well I guess let me catch you up. I went to practice on Saturday, June 20th and it was basically the same thing - PAIN. So I worked out on Sunday and guess what - PAIN. I made an appointment with my doctor (actually the PA I don't think I have ever seen my doctor lol) for Tuesday, June 23rd. She told me I had shin splits. She recommended that I ice my legs and rest. She also stated that if I didn't slow down and rest, it was a possibility that I would have to quit. With that being said I followed her prescription and did nothing the rest of the week. I went to practice on the 27th and was a little afraid of whether I was going to experience the PAIN again. We were scheduled to complete 4 miles, but I held back and walked 2miles. It went by quickly and I kind of regretted not completing the 4, but I didn't want to push it. Oh yeah and there was NO PAIN. Yay!!!

June 30th - I attended Cash Bash with the rest of the team. Basically it was a fundraising clinic to give us more ideas how to raise funds. We signed up to sit outside Walmarts and Sam's club and ask for donations. (That will happen in the next few weeks.) Also signed up for the Team in Training Garage Sale (July 18th Crossroads Mall 9-2). The staff had vendors come out and talk to us about candle sales, Pampered Chef, Red Robin, etc. etc. Received some great information and I am ready to tackle fundraising.

July 1 - Practice was not so much fun. The coaches thought it would be a good idea to run sprints up a hill. Just for fun. lol. We started off at the park and walk/ran down towards Bombay Bicycle and then came back up at the intersection. When we got to the hill we were told that we were going to sprint up the hill for 20 seconds, then walk back down 5 times. On the 5th one we were to run through and do more sprints at the end of the hill, run through and then back to the park.
Ok so I did my sprint and honestly around the 3rd one it wasn't that bad. When I got to the 5th one and ran through. I thought my heart was going to explode. No seriously. I finally caught my breath and was good to go. Then one of the other walkers got sick and I stopped with her until a coach came to help her. Once coach Jennifer got there I continued my walk and asked one of the guys if there were still people down there. He said they were sprinting up the hill and "just go with him", "don't do the sprints". So I did. I really don't think I could have done the extra sprints, but I am finding out that I am doing alot of things I didn't think I could do. First and last time I will cheat. lol

July 3rd - Had a date.

July 4th - Missed practice because I enjoyed my date and stayed out a little late. Ooops

July 8th - Back to the park. It was HOT. We were all just standing there sweating. We took a different and shorter route, because of the heat. The route was a little over 2 miles and very shaded. We lapped around 4 times.

July 9th - Volunteered at the RK Health Fair for soft credit (Money towards my goal) Not alot of people, but the catered breakfast and lunch was great.

July 11th - Had our first practice at the Missions. It was a nice change from the park and simply beautiful. I loved hearing the church bells as we started on the 6 mile course. Yep, I walked (and ran a bit) 6 miles today. Seriously, I never thought I would be doing this. However, remembering why I am doing this makes it worth while. At the end of the course there were signs planted in the ground with pictures of people that we are doing this for. Some were in memory and some were in honor. Seeing their faces, reading their names, and knowing that some of them have passed, makes all the pain, sweat and time practicing and fundraising very, very, very worthwhile.

I am in bed writing this, with ice on my foot. (Toe hurts broke it a couple months ago) About to take nap since I have been up since 4:30 I feel good though, Real good.
